Ghostbusters: Afterlife keeps franchise alive
By Hannah Higgins
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is an entertaining movie that is fun to watch. It is written by Gil Kenan and Jason Reitman, and directed by Jason Reitman. It was released Nov. 19, and can be seen in theaters or through streaming services such as Amazon Prime.
The casting of this movie was incredible with each actor making you root for their character. The main cast of the movie is Paul Rudd (Mr. Grooberson), Carrie Coon (Callie), Finn Wolfhard (Trevor), Mckenna Grace (Phoebe), and Logan Kim (Podcast). There are two actors who especially took the cake for this movie. Mckenna Grace was great at portraying Phoebe, a highly intelligent, but also very awkward middle schooler. Phoebe is probably the main protagonist of the movie, as her smarts drive the plot forward. Phoebe is befriended by Podcast. Podcast is definitely the biggest comic relief of the movie and is also very loveable. You can't help but watch him whenever he is on the screen. Logan Kim is great in this role and definitely deserves to be talked about.
While this is a part of the Ghostbusters franchise, don't expect a remake of the original. There are nods to the past, but this movie is set in a whole new place with completely new characters. This movie introduces a new generation of ghostbusters while still honoring the original cast. The director of the original movie is Ivan Reitman, and his son is the director of Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
My only criticism of the movie is that the plot was a little slow in the beginning. The writers definitely made up for this, though, by giving the audience a thrilling finale. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone, whether they watched the originals or not. It is rated PG-13 due to some bad language, but there is no extreme violence or gore. All in all, this is definitely one of my favorite movies of 2021.
